Worldwide, many a countries do have their national pledge, which India
does not have till date. For this movement the campaigners led by Mr.
Prasanta Varma, Advocate, Supreme Court of India are campaigning for
the national pledge in India for last more than three years. The theme
of the campaigning is “Why India requires its National Pledge”, a book
is also being released by the campaigners.
As a part of the campaigning Mr. Prasanta Varma and his campaigner
friends are approaching different organizations, institutions,
individuals etc. in India. In the 2009 republic day celebration, the
Delhi High court Bar Association (DHCBA) was also approached by Mr.
Prasanta Varma and his campaigners, when DHCBA accepted the proposition
and read out the national pledge in its republic day celebration at
Delhi High Court where more than thousand of lawyers of Delhi High
Court participated and read out the India’s National pledge (video

legal fraternity but also many educational institutions, societies,
individuals etc. across India has adopted and taking oath / India’s
national pledge every year.
PERSONAL APPEAL OF MR. PRASANTA VARMA, ADVOCATE, SUPREME COURT OF INDIA
Individuals, fellow citizens of this country are requested to take oath
/ read out the pledge on Independence day, Republic day as well as on
third Saturday of the year (India’s pledge day). Pledge is just an oath
for the citizen of this country and is self explanatory which is
reproduced herein below :
INDIA’S NATIONAL PLEDGE
“We the people of India today do solemnly pledge ourselves to the
service of our nation with honesty, sincerity, and commitment; always
keeping our nation’s interest paramount in all that we think, do or
say, for the grater glory of this land”.
Friends we are not far off from 15th August, 2009 “Independence Day”.
It is just a reminder to all our patriotic friends of this country to
ensure reading out the national pledge on 15th August, 2009 and to
circulate with as many friends as they can.
