The top most reason - Today we don't have Ms. Sonia Gandhi as PM.
In 2004, Dr. Kalam reportedly told Ms. Sonia Gandhi that - she is not eligible to be the PM of India because Italian Law doesn't allow an Indian to become a PM.
The 2nd most reason - Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam is pride of India - an accomplished scientist. He inspires students when he delivers speech.
Compare him with other Presidential contenders :
.Vice President Mr. Ansari - a proven puppet of Congress - because of whom, the Lokpal bill fell flat in Rajya Sabha.
Dr. Manmohan Singh - Puppet No.1 - always close his eye like Dhrutarashtra, when Duryodhana's loot mother India - be it 2G scam/Any scam or Black Money

Former speaker Mr. Somnath Chaterjee - much better than the above two- acceptable because he had shown independent mindset by going against his own party.
Former speaker Mr. P.A. Sangma - he appears to be a good candidate but one has to investigate whether he is a drunkard as perceived.
Dr. Kalam has got support from Mamta Banerjee. He is most likely get support from Jayalalitha and Karunanidhi because he is a Tamil. People of India satisfied with Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam's last presidency.
So, if NDA supports Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam - Mulayam and Lalu may fall in line. Naveen Patnaik also may eventually support Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam.
Let's hope for the best..
As a citizen, you can write to BJP President and Nitish Kumar to support Dr. Kalam.
If we have a Congress puppet as President, then even if UPA becomesa minority, Rahul Gandhi will be invited to form Government and after that they would indulge in horse trading to buying MPs.
If we have Dr. Kalam is President he would do the right thing.
