Karuna and Jaya won't spend a penny from their own money.
Yet Karuna would distribute free color TV and Jaya would distribute free laptop.
Tamilnadu State is in 1 Lakh crore debt. Union finance minister is not from Tamilnadu. So Pranab Mukharjee won't bail out Tamilnadu where as West Bengal gets 8000 crore bail out package for CPM's 2.3 Lakh crore debt.
Annual interest on 2.3Lakh crore debt is about 21000 crore and Mamta Banerjee's whole tax income goes towards interest payment.
DMK chief M Karunanidhi says "The state government in Tamil Nadu gets 27 per cent tax from the petrol price. If the Centre and state governments reduce their tax percentage substantially on petrol, the recent hike will not affect the public,"
Who had asked the DMK chief to distribute free color TV and charge 27% tax on petrol - an essential commodity that affects every middle and worker class ? When he was CM, if he had run the state with a smaller budget without free sops, a 10% tax on petrol could have been sufficient. He made 1.1 lakh crore debt means 11000 crore interest in debt / annum
Who will pay that - the tax payers - if some one gets a free color Tv or free laptop - you end up paying more in a petrol pump.
DMK chief M Karunanidhi has demanded that both the Centre and the state should "voluntarily come forward" to reduce the tax levied on petrol to mitigate the burden on the common man in the wake of the recent hike. Some states like Kerala, Uttarakhand and Delhi have already cut Value Added Tax on petrol.
DMK chief may note that - Kerala, Uttarakhand and Delhi Government are not offering free color TVs as he did ..
The 88-year-old leader has also used the occasion to soundly reprimand the J Jayalalithaa government in the state for the recent increase in the prices of milk, bus fares and electricity tariff
Seems funny. the increase was needed because of his debt of 1.1 Lakh crore for which Jayalalitha has to pay 11000 crore interest.
