Ajay Jagga, Advocate and President of Janata Party has demanded that the
excise policy of UT should be amended and the closure timings of all
bars/discos should be fixed at 11pm instead of 1 am, keeping in view the
unabated incidents of violence at late night hours at discos/night
clubs. This is a must for restoring peaceful life in city. The tourism
will also decline with such incident. Posting police control room
vehicles outside the late night bars/discos, is no good idea, as why
these places should get protection at the cost of public exchequer.
After all the salaries of cops goes out of public exchequer. If these
places cant manage their own affairs, why should they get security, free
of cost. Moreover it is proven now that the extended closure timing,
which were extended during the tenure of Gen J F R Jacob, are no more
suitable for the city and hence the excise policy should be amended. The
city which
is known for its education standards and being education hub is fast
loosing its qualifications, because of such things. The ranking of Punjab University has also gone down to 36 number at the national level. In fact couple of years back the city never had such timings and was
peaceful but later on the timing were enhanced to 1-2 am, but since now
it is proven that the timings are not suitable for the safe and peaceful
life in city, so the timings should be changed, immediately. There is
definitely a flaw in the policy of Chandigarh Administration, especially
tourism policy, as on one side the police is working hard against
Drunken Driving but on the other side the closure timings of
2am
in night bars and disco are promoting drunken driving at late hours,
causing accidents and incidents of violence. If the timings are not
changed, then the peaceful life and education set up will be the
victims. It
also adds to avoidable litigation in courts due to registration of
cases of violence or even challaning of drunken driving.
