Vigilance Department
raided four entry gates to Orissa after allegations of huge pilferage in salestax and motor vehicle taxes. Vigilance teams
swooped on the gates at Girisola, Jamsola, Sohela and Laxmannath and made
on-spot verification of tax collection.
The anti-corruption wing had
received allegations that the pilferage is to the tune of 2.5 crore a day at these gates which means a
huge loss to the State of Orissa.
The teams seized numerous documents
on tax collection, the methods of collection at these gates and the manpower
employed to carry out the job. The Vigilance Team also zeroed in on the staff
employed on DLR (daily labour roll). While these DLR employees get a daily
remuneration of 150 to 200 a day, some
of them were found to have accumulated huge property.
