Day by day the increasing number of migrants, employees and executives from different parts of India to the state of Orissa on its industrial development has created havoc for the local employment particularly in the industrial towns of Orissa. The local Oriyas having proper education and skills are not getting employment where as the people from the neighboring states are being employed whose antecedents even are not known to the Government Agencies and these people often plays a major role for any law and order situation in a peaceful state like Orissa.
The lands of whom were snatched away and some are waiting for their lands to be snatched (POSCO–Vedanta–Mittal-Sterlite-Tata-Jindal-etc) in the state of Orissa in the name of Industrial Development of the state are definitely not sure about their people’s own employment which is going in to the hands of the neighboring state people, some times even to the foreigners.
I had the occasion to had discussion with some of the leading multinational company’s people working in Orissa, who in turn told that the major companies are setting up their plants and factories in the state of Orissa are mostly in hand and gloves with some of the unscrupulous Government officials. Those officials further assure them for not to initiate any penal / legal action by their different Government Agencies / Departments for these Company’s illegal non-oriya employment.
I was further told that the companies setting up their industries mandatorily required to have and employ 75% local Oriya people. Whereas in such companies in Orissa having employment strength of 500 to 700, one would actually find hardly of 20 to 30 Oriya people (i.e. about 5 %) working in that organization.
This is quite serious. I had the occasion even to interact with one of the senior political party leader in the state of Orissa, who in turn told me that they are working on this issue and will react and agitate once the exact data is available with them.
Interestingly I was told that the major portion of this issue is being taken care of and catered by the local police officials who used to collect their pie from the Industries and the Corporate Houses for their illegal non-oriya employments. Besides the local police, the local leaders, local personal officers of the Government Departments are playing a major role these days for such illegal non-oriya employments.
Finally I understand the Oriya individuals working in these companies may answer this issue in a better way.
