Female infanticide Indian prospective.

Social issue.

According to UNICEF report over 50 million girls missing in India.  This shows female infanticide reaching it’s critical stage.  In India, every day hounders of girls lost their life in different way before birth or after birth.

Naturally women always more than men this ratio is around 105 women out of 100 men, mean around 5% more women over men, but in India this figure is opposite and 93 women out of 100 men, it’s mean around 7% less women over men.

Female infanticide is very common in Indian society (among Hindu) from past to present and still continue in this modern day and age with help of modern techniques.

Except higher class this problem is wide spread in lower class, and lower middle class.

There are different means of female infanticide in India which use according to the suitability of the parents.

Some time parents put tobacco in the newborn baby girl.

Stopped feeding baby girl. Give poison. Buried alive.

In most advance technique is detect child sex and then abort if fetus sex is female.

The problem of female infanticide is outcome of Indian social structure which comes from Hindu religion which make male more dominate over female.  Male hold lots of rights over female and makes female sex weak and oppressed.

There are many factors of female infanticide.

High dowry demand and costly marriage.  In Hindu marriages male side always ask for lot of dowry and female side must fulfill their demand or face the consequence after the marriage that’s why the father of girl take huge loan to marry his daughter and try to fulfill the demand of male side as much as he can.

Most of the family need male because male can performed lot of task like help the father in their business, and farming or protection of the family and lots of other task which cannot performed by the woman.

Boy is consider a inheritor of the family after the death of father, boy lead the family, female can not do this.

Some rituals like death case only boy have to performed death rituals, and even certain festival family need male, female cannot perform certain task because Hindu religion does not allow this.  These issues makes female situation worse.

In Hindu society male sex holding lot of superiority over female sex and has high status qua over female and always have upper hand over female.

In general that’s why owing a girl bring misery in compare to the boy.  This is the reason boy is the most preferred choice among Indian family Hindu family.

From indian prospective we can say boy mean money, power and status qua and girl mean poverty and misery.

In last few decades indian government trying to solve this problems by organizing awareness campaign, and imposed strict law on sex determination and even try to impose law to stop dowry but this have very little impact in the society and killing of the girl is still going in full swing because the root cause of this problem is believe and kind of mentality which comes from Hindu society without changing the mentality or concept about female sex, only by imposing law nothing can happen.
